Our Project of the Month for March – Rehabilitating school facilities in Guinea Bissau

Guinea Bissau is a small and very poor country in West Africa. Plan International has been working there since 1995. Basic education infrastructure and access are inadequate, with very poor facilities and school environments. This has been made much worse by exceptionally heavy rains in 2015, which rendered many schools unusable. At least 2,000 children are unable to attend school in the Bafata and Gabu areas, with a high drop-out rate, particularly among girls, who face particular dangers in walking long distances to alternative and already-overcrowded schools.

Plan’s school rehabilitation programme in Bafata and Gabu is addressing these issue. Our funding of €14,000 will achieve a lot in two specific schools:

  • Two classrooms – Sintcha Demba PS
  • Two classrooms – Sambacunda PS
  • Three latrines – Sintcha Demba
  • Two latrines – Sambacunda

Education is a key driver of development. Your generosity will offer opportunity and hope to hundreds of these marginalised children.
