ESB AC’s ESB 5K Challenge at the end of June was a fantastic success- for the organisers, the athletes, and for ElectricAid. An excellent total of 135 people registered – although not all ran the course on Sandymount Strand. The weather gods were kind, right up to the conclusion of the race, when a cooling shower was generally welcomed. Every participant got the professionally organised and timed race, an Olympic T-shirt, a goody-bag, and a great BBQ and reception in SportsCo. Because of the generous sponsorship of the race by Electric Ireland, GWM, and Group People, all the entry fee income was for ElectricAid. Pat O’Doherty, having survived the race, very generously doubled down on the amount, bringing the total raised to €5,300.
These funds have already been committed to the drought and food crisis in Ethiopia. People’s lives will be changed, and maybe saved, as a result of this event. Thank you all – runners, organisers, stewards, sponsors – you have made a difference.
