The 2nd Annual ESB 5K Challenge on Thursday 22nd June was fantastic success for all concerned – and for ElectricAid. About 120 walkers, joggers and runners explored the new course on the Clontarf Promenade in beautiful (cooler) weather, finishing in a range from 17 to 45 minutes. This year, walkers and joggers of all ability levels were especially welcome. The course is flat and inviting, with lovely sea views. Every participant received an excellent goody-bag and beautiful T-shirt, when registering at Clasach, on the Alfie Byrne Road. On their return to this fantastic venue for the prize-giving, they enjoyed a reception with lovely food and cooling drinks, and generous spot prizes.
Because all costs (food and beverages, venue hire, prizes, goody-bags, etc) were covered by various business units, the full entry fee of €20 went to ElectricAid – and this was generously matched on the night by Pat Naughton, ED Group People, on behalf of ESB. The mathematically gifted among you will already have worked out that this means a serious boost of €4,800 for ElectricAid’s work.
Thanks are due to so many people – ESB AC, the drivers and organisers of the race, ESB for sponsorship and matching funding, the volunteers who made the event run like clockwork, and of course the 120 runners and walkers who put in the hard yards, and who all had a good time, and served a great cause. Thank you all – and see you next year!
