Clean Energy and Education go hand in hand with ElectricAid

For the past 8 years, Masaka Disabled Persons Association (MADIPA) have been training children with disabilities in vocational skills, especially in metal work and tailoring. This helps to empower vulnerable children, and teaches life-long skills that can help to live more sustainably. Children are trained in leatherwork, metalwork, hairdressing and tailoring.

With the support of ElectricAid, MADIPA undertook the installation of a rainwater harvesting system unit and solar panels to their hostel which to reduce the monthly bills through using solar energy and harvested rainwater. By reducing monthly bills, more funds are made available to help the hostel expand and support more children. ElectricAid also supported the purchase of training materials for twenty four trainees for one year.

This project went a long way towards supporting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. By teaching children a vocation, it helps them to avoid poverty (Goal 1). This also improves the health and well-being (Goal 3) and the installation of the solar panels supports the production of affordable and clean energy (Goal 7).
