On Saturday 14th August, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti resulting in the deaths of over 1,000 people with many more seriously injured. As emergency services continue relief and recovery efforts.

The worst-affected areas are in the southern regions of the country – Jérémie and Les Cayes. Where there is significant damage to homes, roads and infrastructure. At least 52,000 houses have been destroyed and more than 77,000 damaged. Women and girls were already bearing the brunt of the multiple crises facing Haiti, including Covid-19, rising hunger, political instability, and gang violence. The effects of this earthquake risk pushing many more families into poverty and hunger.
By way of response, ElectricAid has released €20,000 in emergency funding to 4 of our partners.
ActionAid, GOAL, Concern and ESPWA to undertake emergency humanitarian relief efforts such as the distribution of non-food items (family shelters, water purification tablets and clothing) transportation of donated medical equipment and emergency food supplies.
