Age Action’s Care & Repair programme offers a nationwide, free-of-charge service of minor home maintenance & repair – and critical befriending – for elderly people. This service helps older people to live in comfort and dignity in their own homes for much longer than would otherwise be the case. The service relies to a large extent on the services of community-minded volunteers.
Our 2016 funding of €5,000 for this service went towards van insurance, fuel, and running costs, and for minor tools and equipment. We may see this as a modest funding, but the service can make a critical difference for the quality of life of elderly and isolated people.
