16-A-134 Year 1 progress report
With apologies to Steely Dan for the headline!
We sometimes hear people say – “We don’t hear where our money went, after a Special Appeal”. We don’t think that this is an altogether fair criticism; we try to be as specific as possible, and to tell it like it is, but it is in the nature of natural disasters that funding such as ours can get swallowed up into the general relief effort. NGOs are often not in a position to be as specific as we would like, but this post is an effort to report as clearly as we can on the enormous benefit to thousands of Haitian people your generosity made possible, after the devastation of Hurricane Matthew in 2016. The links above are to the NGOs’ reports.
The Special Appeal raised an excellent total of €32,000 in short order. This included very generous matching funding of €5,000 from ESB. We invited submissions from a range of NGOs, and eventually funded as follows, with the benefits indicated. You know where you stand, and what you get, with ElectricAid:
16-A-111 | Plan Ireland | €5,000 | Food kits for 116 vulnerable families |
16-A-112 | Concern | €5,000 | Road Repairs (€2,080)
Shelter Repair Kits (€2,920) |
16-A-116 | Partners in Health | €10,000 | Continuing medical care, both for victims of the Hurricane, and to limit the spread of Cholera. |
16-A-134 | CBM Ireland | €6,384 | Agri-kits to put 21 vulnerable farm families back in production |
