Ballyheigue is a beautiful village and rural area in Co. Kerry, renowned for peaceful agriculture and surfing and beach holidays. It is also home to a large number of isolated elderly people, who value their independence and wish to remain in their own homes. This is almost always the best social and individual outcome, if they can be assisted in their independence.
The local Ballyheigue Social Economy Enterprises addresses this issue in a variety of ways, providing a Daycare service, Meals on Wheels, Laundry services, and a social centre to combat isolation. Ballyheigue came well recommended to ElectricAid – see Dave Dowling’s reference here: REFERENCE Ballyheigue We were happy to help.
A grant of €3,630 for kitchen and laundry equipment upgrades has “made a tremendous improvement to our facilities within the Community Centre”, according to themselves. It provided a Blast Chiller for the “Meals on Wheels” service, and a commercial grade Steam Iron for the laundry service, and a contribution towards a new dryer. This equipment represents a real advance in the Centre’s ability to reach out to over a hundred isolated and elderly people, to maintain their dignity and independence.
So simple, but so effective …
